The Dandelion Delivers

ree

Days end,

Dusk approaches,

Plants lovingly bedded down.

Water- filled clouds address thirsting needs

as the rocking chair sways to the summer beat.

Muscles soothed,

Sweat dried,

Mindfulness telegraphs content.

Butterflies circle your empty stone chair,

Hummingbirds align in hovered suspension,

A rabbit, wild turkey, and baby bear

gather to visit our place

chosen with so much care.

Who will be my messenger?

Golden blossoms with serrated leaves

heed nature’s call

and transform to seeding fluff balls.

With rhythmic lunges in my rocking chair,

I lean to pluck one from its root.

Eyes closed,

Chest expanded,

A single breath sets to launch

these feathery parachutes

with whispered thoughts of timeless devotion

and word of a project now complete.

THE DANDELION DELIVERS – SYNOPSIS

Folklore and spiritual teachings have linked the dandelion with the ability to communicate with the spirit world. With this thought, I noted that a few dandelions escaped my garden trowel in my planting, weeding, and mulching at our mountain home. The idea of dispersing the seed ball in a single breath, sending a message to my husband, was not folklore to me but rather a bona fide mode of connecting with him. I was sad he never saw the completed project but I wanted him to know he chose well. What better messenger than the dandelion.
